Word of Truth

Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. - James 1:18

Did you know that each Sunday when you go to church, the Word of Truth is being taught in our main services and in our kids’ classes? The Word of Truth is the Bible. It’s the life-giving message of Jesus! The phrase “Word of Truth” is mentioned four times in Old Testament and five times in the New Testament. It’s so important to hear the Word of Truth. Without it, James tells us there can’t be a new life. Through it, people become Christians. Do you remember when your mom, dad, or sunday school teacher shared the Gospel with you? James says that by the Word of Truth God made us His children. We can’t come to God apart from the Word of Truth—the story of Jesus, His life, His death and resurrection. That’s the gospel message. It’s the good- news of God offering forgiveness and new life through His son Jesus Christ.

When the Apostle Paul asked the church in Rome some questions about the importance of God’s Word, he was hoping they knew the answers. (Parents, ask your kids these questions.)

1) How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? Answer They can’t.
2) How will they hear without a preacher?” Answer They won’t.

Later the Apostle Paul tell us that the Word of Christ, another name for the Word of Truth, is the only way people can become Christians! “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”

● Why is it so important to invite unchurched or non--Christian people to church?
● Why is it so important to send missionaries to share about the love of Jesus?
● Talk as a family about who you want to invite to Easter this year.

Pray. Lord, thank You for Your Word of Truth, which has helped me to know who You are. Thank You for Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for working in my heart; we pray, Lord, that You would work in our neighbors and friends who don’t know You, preparing their hearts to hear Your Word of Truth, when they hear it. Help me to be faithful to share and show the love of Christ by inviting others to church and investing time for prayer and friendship. Guide me, Lord, to someone who needs the Word of Truth, so that they can experience new life. In Jesus’ name, -amen!
